Rivershire

At Sprague School, we take a field trip every season to a nature preserve near our school called Rivershire. On this trip we learned about living and non-living things. We searched for living things in the woods.

Forest Friends' Fawn

50 days of School:  Our kindergarten celebrates 50 days of school by gathering together in our multipurpose room and having a Rock-n-Roll Sock Hop.  The students learn about the similarities and differences of days of the past and present.  We sort photos of clothes, hairstyles, cars, and music players.  We learn games, music, and dances from the 1950's.  Enjoying the popular dessert of a root beer float is always a big hit of the 50's.  In the photos below you can see some of the students dressed-up for the celebration.

Rivershire Field Trip:  Each season we visit our school district's nature center called Rivershire.  We have a special teacher, Mrs. Linn, who teaches us about nature and the changing seasons.  Below are some photos or our Summer and Fall/Autumn trips.

Mystery Reader- Each week we have a family member who joins us as a mystery reader. The reader sends in a sheet of clues to help us figure out which student has a family member joining us.  Here are some photos of the readers we have had so far.

Below are photos of the Forest Friends during Halloween.  We celebrate Halloween on Oct. 31st of each year.  The students dress in costumes, have a school parade, and trick or treat for sweets at night.

Teddy went with us on our field trip to Rivershire. Rivershire is our very own nature center here in Lincolnshire, Il. We go here four times a year, one for each season. During our Fall trip, we hiked through the forest finding living and non-living items. We took our non-living and once living items back to the center to make patterns.

We celebrate every ten days in our classroom to help us learn to count by tens to 100! Today was our 50th day of school. We dressed up in our 1950s style clothing. We learned two dances...the hand jive and the limbo!
